INTER-AGENCY HEALTH CARAVAN PROVIDES FREE SERVICES IN BAGUIO

BAGUIO CITY

Health services, counselling and even vegetables were given for free on Tuesday at the culmination of an 18-day inter-agency caravan aimed at helping end violence against women (VAW). Among the free services provided at the St. Vincent Gym here are dental services, nutritional assessment,
psychosocial support, psychological counseling, family planning and contraceptive insertion, human immunodeficiency virus screening test, cervical screening, legal assistance, personal grooming, therapeutic services, and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation services.

Nurse Glenda Dacanay, program manager of the Women and Child Protection of the Department of Health-Cordillera Administrative Region (DOHCAR), said in an interview that the caravan focused on making known the available support services provided by the different agencies. “VAW is an issue on the health and well-being of a person, and is a top priority of the DOH,” Dacanay said.
Aside from helping victims, the DOH also conducts training for healthcare workers, social welfare officers, medical officers, and the police on how to handle victims of abuse.
