Nearly 800 Cordillera cops get promotion

CAMP DANGWA, La Trinidad, Benguet- – It’s an early Christmas gift for the 795 police officers from the various units of the Police Region Office Cordillera (PROCOR) with the donning of their insignia to the next higher ranks.

“I believe that today we are seeing the PNP in the role of Santa Claus bestowing an early Christmas gift to a select few. There is perhaps no greater gift than to be pinned with the emblem of the next higher rank at the closing of the year for any PNP personnel,” Brig. Gen. Israel Ephraim Dickson, PROCOR regional director in his message during the donning of ranks on Monday.

He reminded the newly promoted police officers to abide by the rules and regulations of the police organization. “Pangalagaan natin ang ating serbisyo (value your being part of the service). We are lucky to have been included and passed the screening by the promotions board as there were others who were not promoted for various reasons,” Dickson said.

He said promotion does not only go side-by-side with the benefits but higher and more complex responsibilities go with it.

“No other event or ceremony holds the most meaning in a career with the PNP than this. Our organization’s successful execution of its mission is dependent upon the quality of leadership that is developed then put in the proper place and time. It is the event where the prick of a pin signals the assumption of greater authority, responsibility, and accountability,” Dickson said.

He said a police officer should be a dedicated servant of the people whom he swears to serve and protect. He also reminded the police officers to do their jobs as the government takes care of them- financially. Dickson said being in the police service is not simple, it also requires hard work.

“Mahirap pumasok, mahirap ma-promote, madaling maalis sa serbisyo (difficult to enter the [PNP service], difficult to be promoted but easy to be removed),” he said.

The newly-promoted police officers are from the PROCOR, Regional headquarters, Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), Benguet Provincial Police Office (BPPO, the different provinces in the region and the national police service units.

The highest rank promoted was to a Lieutenant Colonel. The most number of those promoted were with the rank Police Executive Master Sergeant (PEMS) and eight with the Corporal rank. Dickson also warned the police officers to stay away from places of ill-repute such as cockpits and from being involved with illegal drugs and other illegal activities.

“No PNP personnel should use government or private vehicles without plate number or conduction sticker, for all police officers not to tolerate lawlessness and must be tough against criminals without fear or favor,” he said.
