Newly improved prov’l road in Mankayan to benefit farmers, prevent accidents

The Provincial Government of Benguet has recently completed the improvement of a 325-meter section of Mankayan-Bedbed Provincial Road in Mankayan, Benguet to ease the transport of agricultural products from farms to the market, and to prevent vehicular accidents.
Governor Melchor Diclas said the Provincial Government has allocated P1.5M from the 2021 Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
Fund (LDRRMF) for the concreting of the poor sections of the said road not only to hasten the mobilization of farm products but also to avoid road accidents.
Tabio Barangay Chairman Eugene Laquite said there are around 500-600 families in barangays Tabio and Bedbed who are now benefiting from the improvement of the said provincial road. He said most of these families get their income from vegetable and animal farming.
Laquite added that the improvement of the road which was completed on January 11, 2022 will not only ease the difficulty of transporting farm products and other goods, but will also help prevent vehicular accidents. According to him, there had already been several car accidents recorded on the said road due to its poor condition.
“Ada dagiti madadaelan, ada pay dagiti natnatnag nga lugan idi,” Laquite said.
On the other hand, Laquite thanked the Provincial Government of Benguet headed by Gov. Diclas not only for the concreting of the said provincial road but also for other development projects funded and implemented by the Provincial LGU in their locality such as waterworks, canals, and school buildings.
Meanwhile, Engr. Sleigh Estigo of the Benguet Provincial Engineering Office (PEO) Maintenance Division said other provincial roads in Mankayan have also been recently improved like the Guinaoang-Suyoc-Gambang Provincial Road and the Mankayan-Bato Provincial Road.
Estigo added that there is also an ongoing road improvement project worth P10,000,000.00 in Atayan-Balili Provincial Road also funded by the Provincial Government of Benguet.
Further, the Mankayan-Balili Provincial Road is also undergoing road upgrading funded through the Conditional Matching Grant to Provinces (CMGP) program of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
