Top 8 elementary schools to join Panagbenga grand parade

BAGUIO CITY – The city’s school children brighten up the road with colorful costumes, lively steps and vibrant sounds to open the 23rd edition of the Baguio Flower Festival on February 1.
The top eight schools which dominated the elimination round of the street dancing and drum and lyre competition-elementary division will join as contestants of the grand street dancing parade on February 24.
The elementary schools of Apolinario Mabini, Baguio Central, Dominican-Mirador, Emilio Aguinaldo, Jose P. Laurel, Josefa Cariño, Manuel L. Quezon, and Tuba Central from Benguet scored highest from the 11 schools that participated in the parade which started in the Panagbenga Park to Session Road, towards the Athletic Bowl.
With the theme “Celebration of Culture and Creativity”, the month-long celebration of Panagbenga was opened through interfaith prayers before the parade.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan didn’t make it to the Panagbenga Park for the traditional “Uggayam”, a chant of indigenous people in the Cordillera Region usually delivered by the community leader. Instead he had his welcome remarks at the Athletic Bowl. MA. KRYSTAL I. DIOQUINO, UB INTERN / ABN
