Underground mine officer falls inside tunnel

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — An underground mine officer tasked to patrol underground tunnels at the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Company (LCMC) mine site in Lepanto, Mankayan was found dead at dawn on Wednesday.
Police said an LCMC employee told them that the lifeless body of underground patrol employee Marvin Hidalgo del Rosario was found by mine worker Ruben Macaboras at level 900 along the intermediate Chute at Tubo in Sapid, Mankayan, Benguet.
Investigators initially found out that the victim was on his first shift duty from 11:00PM of March 19, 2019 to 7:00AM of March 20, 2019 when he allegedly fell more than 400 meters from the Collar Chute until level 900.
The victim was brought to the Lepanto Hospital but was declared dead on the spot (DOS) by the attending physician. He was 29 and was from sitio Cabruan, barangay Concepcion, Cervantes, Ilocos
Sur.
LCMC corporate communications chief Butch Mendizabal said the mine firm is still deep into the investigation about what actually happened, while vowing full assistance to the victim and his family’s loss.
