KM3-KM5 ROAD IMPROVEMENT, EXPECTED TO CAUSE TRAFFIC

Alternate route plans in placed-La Tri Police

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet

A P132 million national road improvement project along the portion of Km 3-Km 5 in this capital town is set to start on May, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said. And alternate route plans are in placed for motorists plying the route (Km 3-Km 5). In an exclusive interview, Engineer Arnel Tanacio, Construction Chief of
Benguet First Eng’g District of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-CAR) , said the road repair is expected to be accomplished within 384 calendar days.

However, Tanacio noted that there might be 2-3 months extension due to the expected rainy season in the coming
months. He added that the road works will be done mostly at night to lessen traffic congestion within the day.
Tanacio reminded that traffic is unavoidable as the road repair will be four lanes since it is a national project. “Warning, talaga nga agcause ti traffic, awan maaramidan tayo kasi buo, from Km3-km5, masukatan”, he said. The project was proposed by the DPWH Regional Office under the Regular Infrastructure Program, and lobbied by Bneguet Representative Eric Yap.

Police Lieutenant Colonel (PLTCOL) Benson Mac-liing, the new La Trinidad Chief of Police, said that they are prepared for such a big project. “There are 2 options, those southbound for Mountain Province, the alternate road will be in Bekkel Road. “Iyong manggagaling po sa Naguilian Road, they can use the Longlong, Puguis Road, also they can use the alternate road going to the diversion road. We have alternate routes”, Macliing added. Mac-liing explained that they are ready to send out an estimate of 10 officers, depending on the need of the contractor.
