The sports complex eyed to host national and even international events in the future, Yap earlier said as he added that improvements are now being fast tracked including the put up of additional sports structures at the sports complex.
“Para sa improvement ng Benguet sports complex, hopefully matapos na ngayong 2021 (For the improvement of the Benguet Sports Complex which will hopefully be finished by 2021),” Yap said in an earlier release.
The solon said that P163 million budget has been lined up for the improvement of the oval field along with placing tartan rubber in the running track. Yap said that the 400 meter track will soon have a rubber tartan track while the existing grandstand would also be demolished to give way for a grander stadium.
It will be complete with bleachers and underneath are rooms for the training of athletes. He said they will constantly monitor the upgrade of the sports complex implemented by the District Engineering Office.
He said they eye the hosting of the Palarong Pambansa in the future as he assure that the structures being made would surely comply with national and international standards.
Yap added that the upgrading of the multipurpose gymnasium is ongoing, particularly the tiling of its walkway. He said the budget is P25 million for the flooring, scoreboard, bleachers and other accessories of the gym.
“Ang goal natin ay mag host ng PBA (Philippine Basketball Association) na maglaro sila dito sa Benguet para mapromote natin ang probinsya (The goal is for us to host the PBA to promote the province),” he said.
He said that after the completion of the works at the sports complex this year, they eye for 2022 the construction of an Olympic sized pool. “Dahil sa 2022 iyong Olympic-size pool naman ang popondohan natin (Because in 2022, the Olympic sized pool will be funded),” Yap said.
