BSU UNVEILS GIANT ‘EVERLASTING CAKE’

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet

The Benguet State University(BSU) unveiled its version of giant cake during the Everlasting Festival in celebration of its 107th Foundation Anniversary. University President Dr. Felipe S. Comila led school officials in the unveiling and ceremonial slicing of the giant cake at the BSU Gymnasium on September 28, 2023.

“The cake was conceptualized to show that the University has “everlasting” services which cater to all the faculty, staff, students, members of the community and all the stakeholders,” said Rodeliza Flores, a faculty of the College of Home Economics and Technology and the Chairperson of the Giant Cake Committee. The cake measured 18 feet by 9 feet. It was cut into more than 4,660 slices and shared to the students, school personnel and visitors during the program.

At least 50 hospitality management students from the College of Home Economics and Technology(CHET) helped personnel of the BSU bakery led by Manager Arnie Mendoza and the CHET faculty headed by College Dean Dr. Jaojao Somyden in baking and decorating the large cake.
The bakers used more than 200 kilos of “tumok” banana in making the cake.

Flores explained that they opted to bake the banana flavored cake because of the availability of the ingredient and since it is also among the products of the BSU bakery. She said that they hope to bake a bigger cake in the next foundation anniversary. Meanwhile, faculty, staff, and students of the University also came together to showcase their talents and creativity thru the variety show during the Everlasting Festival.
