Dead elderly infects three grandchildren

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – A grandfather who was reported dead recently due to the Coronavirus infection has infected his three grandchildren in Barangay San Agustin, three of the five newly confirmed cases of this city on Friday.

The three grandchildren aged six, 10 and 16 were exposed to their grandfather and now currently at the isolation facility, said barangay San Agustin Chairman Nicanor Ramos said in an interview.

Ramos added that grandfather has no travel history, but suffered an injury on his foot when he stepped on a nail “until his body begun weak and loss appetite.

“Nagpatawag nalang ako sa City Health Office (CHO) upang masiguro nila ang kondisyon ng matanda, (I called the city health office to check on the condition of the old man),” said Ramos.

Ramos added, that before the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) was declared anew in this city and in Caba town due to the surge of Covid-19 cases, the old man had transactions with some buyers for a lot.

“It is possible that the old man was infected with the Covid-19,” said Ramos in Iloco. The grandfather was swab tested by the CHO and his test proved positive and admitted at the Ilocos Training Regional and Medical Center (ITRMC).

However, he died last July 12. Another elderly, a 67-year-old male friend of the 76-year old was tested positive of the virus but symptomatic. He refused admission at the hospital and was reported dead on July 19.

Ramos now strictly enforce the lockdown of his barangay and where he installed several metal barricades to stop people from going in and out of the barangay to prevent spread of the disease.

Aside from the three kids were identified as a 33-year-old male from barangay Pagdaraoan who went for consultation at the Lorma Medical Center then went home. He tested positive for Covid-19 and now confined at an isolation facility; and a 51- year-old male from barangay Sevilla who was currently admitted at the ITRMC.
