DSWD – CAR gives 30 Tabuk indigent fams P15K assistance

TABUK CITY, Kalinga- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) gave 30 indigent residents of this city P15,000 each as cash assistance under its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) on Wednesday, May 5.
The fund came from the Department’s Livelihood Assistance Grant (LAG) under the national government’s Bayanihan 2, said Jonaliza Pulacan of DSWD-CAR, who added that all beneficiaries are
indigent residents of Tabuk City.
The grant is given to families affected by the lockdown during the enforcement of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) starting March 17 last year, she added.
“This is what they call as LAG and provided to families that were affected by the lockdown and for them to recover,” she said in Iloko. She said the money must be used for the put up of business and not for anything else.
Mayor Darwin Estrañero thanked the DSWD for its continuous support to the people of the city during the award ceremony. Estrañero reminded the beneficiaries to use the money wisely and avoid getting tempted of using it for unnecessary things or worst use it for gambling activities.
“There are many ways wherein we can make use of the money given by the government but let’s make sure that it is not for gambling, use the excess money for other things so that there will be something left for your family,” he said in the vernacular.
He said the 30 families are lucky to be chosen and assured that qualified indigent families not part of Wednesday’s grant should not worry because there will be other batches for qualified beneficiaries in the future.
He assured that aside from the DSWD, that the Tabuk local government will not stop working to provide assistance for families affected by the pandemic.
