Grand float parade jumpstarts 14th Dinengdeng Festival

AGOO, LA UNION – The 14th Dinengdeng festival of the municipality of Agoo kicked off its first day of celebration on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, with a variety of events delighting visitors and Agooenos alike.
The streets of Agoo, filled with flamboyant floats designed and created by the participants consisting of private and public schools, business establishments, and non-government and government organizations, started the opening parade at 3pm.
The torch relay and the lighting of the cauldron came after the parade at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-South La Union Campus (DMMMSU-SLUC) to show the unity and resilience of Agooenos through the years.
At the awarding ceremony for the grand float competition, Don Eufemio F. Eriguel Memorial National High School and Agoo National Vocational High School garnered the most points to be crowned the victor under the school category with their underwater themed float that depicted the lively and meaningful life of people whose core values are anchored on the standards of Agooenos.
Pinnacle, with their slogan Mura at Disenteng Libing ang Alay namin, dominated the Business Category with a bang, literally, as balloons and confetti burst mid-air in front of the judges during the parade.
The 101 Dinengdeng recipes from the 49 barangays of Agoo is another exciting event that pleased not just the eyes of participants but also their appetites.
Though it rained a little, the fun didn’t stop for the Neon Fun Run. Participants ran from DMMMSU-SLUC to San Isidro Beach Front with an all-out-get-wet beach party with disc jockeys from Manila. CHRISTIAN JASTINE V. MENDOZA, UC Intern / ABN
