Marine, AWOL cop tagged in La Union farmworker’s murder fall

BAGUIO CITY(June 25, 2021)— A Marine and a policeman on AWOL, who were tagged in killing a farm worker in Bacnotan, La Union Tuesday night are now with authorities.
two suspects who killed a farmworker  in the night of June 22, 2021 at Barangay Ballogo, Bacnotan, La Union.
Sgt. Allan Alegria alias “Major Allan Rashid Ortega”, 44, a native of Aborlan, Palawan  and an enlisted Philippine Marines and  Patrolman Rogie Ege, 28, a native of Negros Occidental and an AWOL Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) member were tracked by the police via cctv footages of the murder of Cristito Morate, 49, a native of Imus, Cavite and working as a farmworker.
Morate was reportedly shot on the head by one of the suspects who after the attack ran towards the highway where an orange pick-up truck was waiting.
Bacnotan policemen were able to trace a hotel in Sa Juan town where the suspects stayed for a month prior to the killing and another location where they hid after the actual shooting.
The suspects even tried to elude arrest but were cornered by the pursuing police when they were blocked at a police checkpoint in Barangay Lingsat, San Fernando City, La Union.
High-powered firearms, ammunition, bullet proof vests, radios, cellphones, backpack, among others were seized from the duo.
The police surmised that the dup, who are elite-trained, belong to a group they still did not reveal to journalists.  
A possible motive behind the killing was established but the police also refused to disclose in the meantime.
The suspects will be slapped with murder and violation of RA 10591 or illegal possesion of firearms.
