MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL KICKS-OFF WITH COLORS AND CREATIVITY AT THE LITTLE CHINATOWN AT SESSION RD.

The city government, in partnership with the Association of Baguio ChineseFilipino Youth Inc. (ABCFYI), officially launched today, Oct. 7, the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Mooncake/ Moon Festival by opening a ‘Little Chinatown’ at Session Road. ABCFYI President Jeffrey Sy welcomed every Filipino, Chinese, and other nationalities in the event and hoped that this will eventually become a yearly tradition in the Summer Capital.

“This is the first time we’re doing this for mid-autumn. Little Chinatown last year was for Chinese New Year. We are hoping na successful nga, people will like it, and then we get to do it again next year so magiging yearly tradition na siya ng Baguio.” he added. Mayor Benjamin Magalong authorized the temporary closure of Session Road from 1 AM of October 7 to 11:30 PM of October 8, 2023, through Executive Order no. 138, series of 2023 in line with the festival’s celebration.

The runway costume contest on the second day of Baguio’s Little Chinatown midautumn festival showcased the creative flair of cosplayers. Participants dressed in unique Chinese-inspired costumes added color and vibrancy to Session Road. In the runway competition, three of the 18
participants received the highest points from the judges. Kendall Greale was third as a monk, Asra Liege, second as the goddess of the moon, Chang’e, and Charles Andrew Nonog took first place for portraying Xiao Wangzi.

The two-day event included festive activities, cultural performances, food stalls from Chinoy brands, interactive activities and many more. The smiles of the crowd at the festival proved that it was a resounding success.
