NIA-CAR COMPLETES 204 IRRIGATION PROJECTS CY 2023; BENEFITTED 13K PLUS FARMERS

LA TRINIDAD, BenguetSome 204 irrigation projects across the region have been completed and benefitted 13,751 farmers, according to the National Irrigation AdministrationCordillera Administrative Region (NIA-CAR). The report was based on the Status of Project Implementation as of November 30 for Calendar Year (CY) 2023 submitted to Engr. Benito Espique, Jr., NIA-CAR
Regional Manager by Engr. Sammy Kimbungan, Chief, Engineering Section.

The agency has generated 774 hectares of new areas and restored 2, 209.96 hectares for a total of 2,984.70 hectares. These irrigation projects include repair and restoration of communal irrigation systems (CIS), restoration of national irrigation systems (NIS), Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program-Irrigation Component (CARP-IC), Establishment of Ground Pump Irrigation Project-Solar (EGIPSolar) , and repair of roads, among others

It also repaired and rehabilitated some 28.43 kilometers of canal lining and 38.87 kms. of pipelines. An initial 7,830 jobs were generated. Summary of completed irrigation projects per province are as follows: Abra 23, Apayao 18, Benguet 42, Ifugao 23, Kalinga 26, and Mt. Province
72. Actually, for 2023 the agency has programmed a total of 272 projects and was given a total appropriation of P1.654 billion. For CY 2022 irrigation projects, as of Nov. 30, 2023, the agency has completed 191 out of the 195 projects programmed.
