Safe motherhood emphasized in Buntis Congress

CABA, La Union – The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Provincial Health Office (PHO) and in partnership with Caba District Hospital (CDH) and Ilocos Training Regional and Medical Center Obstetrics and Gynecology Department conducted Buntis Congress at CDH Conference Hall, Poblacion Sur, Caba, La Union on April 30, 2019.
A total of 79 pregnant women including teen moms from the municipalities of Caba and Aringay, La Union joined the said event to keep them abreast on safe motherhood, family planning and nutrition in pregnancy both for themselves and their babies on their
gestation period and after delivery.
Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III, duly represented by Executive Assistant Justo Orros III, inspired the pregnant women and assured that mother and child health care is a regular
service being catered to by the inter-local health zones clustered among nearby district hospitals like CDH and Local Government Units in the province which complement each other through their expertise, services and facilities.
Apart from briefings on safe motherhood, family planning and nutrition in pregnancy, the participants were also provided information on the importance of prenatal visit; facility-based delivery; benefits of exclusive breastfeeding; management of post-partum depression; danger or emergency signs of pregnancy; responsible parenthood and newborn screening.
Buntis Congress is a quarterly activity of PGLU in line with Gov. Pacoy’s vision of a Happy La Union, Healthy La Union by 2022 and aims to provide maternal services in the different municipalities of La Union and improve the survival of women during pregnancy, delivery and post-partum, and reduce maternal, neonatal and child mortality in the province.
