Spartan Race Open 2022 offers 8 legs with 2 in Baguio

Two of the eight legs of the Philippine version of the world’s top obstacle racing event for 2022 will be staged here. Spartan Philippines in its Facebook wall announced eight exciting events next year and after its 2021 season ender at Alviera in Porac, Pampanga this weekend.
For the Alviera stop, Spartan Philippines said: “Get ready for the biggest most epic race of the year! Time to end 2021 with a strong finish so you better gear up for the inevitable.”
The bigger 2022 Spartan open schedule will kick off in Baguio on February 12. On March 19, it will be in Anda, Bohol, followed by the Cebu leg at the Mactan Seagrove on April 2.
Then it will be at the New Clark City Stadium in Tarlac, Tarlac on June 11 for the first Spartan Stadion in the country, a 5-kilometer, 20 obstacle race through the country’s landmark stadium where most of the events of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games were held.
Then it will be Baguio on July 30 for the La Ruta, the hardest mountain bike race in the world and will be the first ever Asian-based qualifying race.
Then Spartan goes up on North on August 27 in Ilocos Sur in a venue yet to be announced. The last two legs will be held in Boracay sometime in October and the final leg on a venue yet to be decided on November 5 and 6.
Spartan Race made a return to Philippine soil for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic hit with the Spartan Philippines National Series at the Batangas Lakelands in Balete that started last September 25 and 26.
When it resumed, participants had to undergo stringent protocols like being subject to an RT-PCR test or Laboratory Generated Antigen
Test not more than 72 hours before they compete.
While a vaccine will not be mandatory, runners will be grouped together in heats during the races based on their vaccination status.
Wearing of masks was also mandatory during the event’s registration, in the festival and awarding venues, and as in the start and finish lines to ensure the safety of runners.
Spartan Race is innovating obstacle racing on a global scale that has more than 130 races around the world annually. It offers three core races “each escalating in distance, obstacle count and challenge level.”
These are the Spartan Sprint (5K/20 obstacles), the Spartan Super (10K/ 25 obstacles) and Spartan Beast (Half Marathon/ 30 obstacles). Spartan Race describe its courses as “riddled with signature obstacles: mud, barbed wire, walls, rope and fire.
Participants are challenged to join all three races to be able to join the trifecta tribe.
Spartan also offers a race for kids (½ – 1 mile), the Special Spartans (for racers with intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities) as well as races for those who push themselves to the limit like the Hurricane Heat (bootcamp-style challenge) and the Ultra (50K, 60 obstacles).
