The important quest of a teacher

Every day of our lives, we encounter instructions or directions that we are supposed to follow. However, according to Alykka Fowler (2009), what instruction-givers don’t realize sometimes is that they should also be able to give clear and concise directions. Producing well delivered instructions teacher will help all sorts of students from attentive to more dispersive ones.

It is frustrating for the receivers of the commands if they fail due to misunderstanding so one must first think of the clearness, understandability and simplicity of directions before giving it out to the people. Research shows that effective teachers organize and plan their instruction (Misulis 1997; Stronge 2007).

Department of Education (DepEd) recognizes that instructional planning is essential to successful teaching and learning (DepEd Order No. 42, s. 2016). Teacher’s instruction is one of the main roles to motivate the learners to develop their ability and aspiration to learn.

Beatriz Meneguetti (2006) said that it seems such an obvious concept and such an easy thing to do, but then, you set up a task, or ask for an action, and it does not come up as imagined.

Instructions are not something to be overlooked, in fact, giving the right sort of instruction is crucial to a good flow of a lesson, and performance of an activity or exam. Very recently I was a proctor on Ms. Juvy Abuda’s class and I witness how systematic she was in delivering instructions.

I believe that most teachers do the same; but I’m just mesmerized on how she handles things right and her passion to impart ideologies to her students.

Verily, a teacher serves to be a role model person in student’s life who bring out the best in them and encourage them to strive for greatness. The most common role a teacher plays in the classroom is to teach knowledge to children; and giving clear instructions which I considered as the important quest of a teacher.

I believe that this creates a classroom culture that increases achievement and decreases disruption without inhibiting the students’ creativity or desire to learn.
