Thriving football culture seen in Ilocos Sur

BANTAY, ILOCOS SUR – The Ilocos United Football Club (from the North) had shown what they’ve got during the pilot match versus Davao Aguilas Football Club of South last May 7, 2017 at the new Quirino Stadium, Bantay Ilocos Sur.
The game ended draw 1-1. Not bad for the Ilocos United FC.
This is their first game, playing under the Philippine Football League. As Governor Ryan Singson stated during the interview “the overall team is good, and there is always room for improvement, just continue practicing and we had seen their big potential in the field of football.”
Aside from this, Governor Ryan added up the benefit this event could give to the province of Ilocos Sur, a big exposure not only to the entire Philippines but also around the world.
Pampered with the very comfortable venue of the event, the Quirino Stadium, one of Ilocos Sur’s pride for sports venue, the father of the province strongly believe we can produce best players.
Realizing the fact that football is not as hard as basketball specially to its impact for the viewers and to most of us, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur will slowly put it back to the line.
Starting from the grassroots going up to the level, until it will shine next to basketball, the Ilocos United FC in coordination with the Provincial Sports Committee will initiate a community service thrice every week for the Ilocanos. The team pledged to reach even the schools in the province.
The Ilocos United FC-Davao Aguilas FC match is the third biggest sports event that held in the state of the art football field. First was the friendship game of international football teams, Philippine Azkals and Australian Perth Glory last July 2016, followed by the recently concluded R1AA last March 3-8 this year.
Governor Ryan dreams that in the coming days, more events will happen at the Quirino Stadium, so that its main purpose will be achieved and Ilocos Sur will be known as the center for football training. PIO Ilocos Sur / ABN
