38 butchered dogs recovered in Benguet

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET – Thirty eight butchered dogs were recovered by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (Menro La Trinidad) together with the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station (LTMPS) on a cliff along Shilan-Lamut road in La Trinidad, Benguet on Tuesday (July 3).
The carcasses were immediately buried to avoid any health hazard for the people near the area.
In an interview with PCInsp. Benson Macli-ing, LTMPS chief, he said that the 38 butchered dogs were found without internal organs and ready to be sold in the market.
“Ito po ay itinawag ng isang concerned citizen na sinabing may nangangamoy sa may boundary ng Shilan-Lamut road at agad po nating pinuntahan, at tumambad nga ang mga katay na aso doon,” Macli-ing said.
He also mentioned that there were no suspects identified because there are no residents living in the said place which is a sharp curve area.
According to their initial investigation, the said 38 dog carcasses were intentionally dumped.
“Ang initial investigation po natin ay, noon sigurong nag-conduct kami ng checkpoint sa aming Shilan compact and at the same time mayroon ding checkpoint sa Bekkel road, baka ‘yong mga suspects hindi na makalabas [sa area] kaya nagdecide na lang sila na itapon ‘yong mga butchered dogs,” he explained.
Macli-ing said that investigation is still ongoing and he is expecting that this case will be solved and the people liable for this act will be arrested through the help of the media.
“Payo po natin na dapat ang mga aso alagaan natin at itigil na natin ang ganitong gawain dahil bawal ito at may batas tayo para dito,” he added.
Anyone who will be caught killing, selling or trading dog meats may face multiple violations under the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 and Anti-Rabies Act of 2007.
Installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) in that area is requested to Menro for better monitoring of the area which will greatly help in securing peace and order. ROMELO DUPO III, UC INTERN
