498 Ifugaos pass ALS exam

LAGAWE, IFUGAO – Four hundred ninety eight Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners in the province passed the Accreditation and Equivalency (A and E) examination held earlier this year.
Provincial ALS Coordinator Arsenio Yongoyong said of the 498 successful takers, there are 496 in the secondary level and only two in the elementary level composed of 351 males and 147 females.
Of the male passers, 22 are inmates at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology with 20 passing the secondary level A and E examination and two in the elementary level, Yongoyong added.
The ALS is an important component of the Philippine Educational System to achieve quality and access to education as envisioned in the Education for All (EFA) 2015 Philippine Plan of Action specifically on the reduction of non-literacy rate.
The Bureau of ALS is mandated to address the basic education needs of the out-of school children, out-of school youth and adults in the far-flung and isolated communities as provided under Republic Act 9155 otherwise known as the Governance of Basic Education.
The Schools Division of Ifugao implements two major programs of the ALS namely the Basic Literacy Program and the A and E examination. It also includes special pilot programs like the eSkwela, Mobile Library, ALS Volunteer and Local Government Unit- funded classes in the different municipalities or districts of the province.
Implementation of these programs is guided by the vision to be the best producer of life-long learners among the Ifugaos and the mission of developing exemplary programs and open creative learning opportunities to achieve multiple literacies for all in partnership with other producers of learning.
Learning sessions are being conducted in barangay halls, churches, training centers, private houses and even under the trees and the ALS students who will complete the curriculum will be the next to take the A and E examination. DANIEL B. CODAMON, PIA-Ifugao / ABN
