Baguio COVID19 Shoots Up With 52 New Cases In One Day

BAGUIO CITY(September 24,2020)—  Barely a week before opening its doors to tourists from Region 1, Baguio City records 52 new cases of Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) Thursday (September 24, 2020).
On September 20, 2020, the city listed 43 cases,  38 of them are residents within Slaughterhouse area, Barangay Sto.  Niño.  The said transmission was attributed to the absence of health protocols during drinking sessions that were held by the residents in their area.
On September 22, 2020, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong  issued an executive order suspending the operations at the Baguio City abbattoir from September 23 to 24, 2020.  This, upon the recommendations of health officers and the City Veterinarian and contact tracers basing from their identifications of factors that contributed to community transmission in barangay Sto.  Niño.
Of the 52 new cases recorded on September 24, 15 are from the said barangay.
The said new cases are results of the expanded testing and contact tracing done by health workers and volunteers.
Baguio has now a total of 681 cases with 265 active.  The city has 12 Covid-19 related deaths and 404 recoveries.
