Benguet opens month-long 121st foundation celebration

La Trinidad, Benguet (November 8, 2021)—Officials of the provincial government of Benguet formally opened the start of the month-long celebration of Benguet’s 121st foundation anniversary Monday morning at the Provincial Capitol grounds here.
Benguet marks the annual celebration thru the traditional “Adivay” (getting together) of the Benguet Indigenous Peoples (IPs) comprising the etholingustic groups—  Ibaloys, Kankanaeys, Karaos, Kalanguyas, among others with festivities culminating with a grand “cañao” (community feast).
Last year’s celebration was done with a simple ceremony without the traditional and grand activities and rituals because of the lockdowns.
This year, the Benguet provincial government will push through with the traditional celebrations themed: “Resilient and Healthier Benguet in the Midst of Adversity”, though with some restrictions along with the existing protocols against the Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19).
This year’s celebration is aimed at showcasing Benguet’s initiatives in working with its people in recovering from the crisis and bring back vigor in economic activities.
Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas said that the celebration is dedicated to all the people who have contributed in the development and progress of the province.
“Adivay” will also be of giving thanks to the medical frontliners and all frontliners who sacrificed their time and even their lives in saving others from the virus.
Rep. Eric Go Yap, Benguet caretaker congressman said, it is but fitting to celebrate the resilience of the Benguet people that amidst the pandemic,  the province becomes united towards overcoming difficulties and emerge victorious as a people.
Everyone is a hero, every Benguet is a victor,  the lawmaker remarked.
