CITY ASKS DPWH TO PROVIDE SIDEWALKS, ROAD SAFETY SIGN IN ITS PROJECTS

BAGUIO CITY

Mayor Benjamin Magalong signed city council resolution no. 204, series of 2024, requesting the Department of Public Works and Highways-Baguio City District Engineering Office (DPWHBCDEO) for the inclusion of the provision of sidewalks in their road widening projects within the Summer Capital. Authored by councilor Benny Bomogao, the measure stated that the DPWH-BCDEO has implemented a series of road widening projects in the city and that there is a high presence of foot traffic or pedestrians even along major national roads in the city such as Kennon Road, AspirasPalispis Highway (Marcos Highway) and Quirino Higway (Naguilian Road).

“The provision of a sidewalk is necessary for the safety of the public and to prevent foreseeable accidents that may happen at any time which endanger life, limb, and property,” the approved resolution added. Meanwhile, the Mayor also ratified city council resolution no. 206, series of 2024, requesting the DPWHBCDEO to install speed limit signs, rumble streets and/or other road safety signs along national roads where pedestrian lanes are located in the city. “There is a need for a proactive response in order to avoid accidents that may endanger life, limb and property by installing protective devices and safety measures on roads approaching pedestrian lanes where it is deemed necessary,” the measure stated.
