City council passes 148 resolutions; 49 ordinances in five months

BAGUIO CITY – The city council passed a total of 148 resolutions and 49 ordinances and conducted 14 public consultations since November 19 last year, Councilor Leandro Yangot, Jr. said before local officials during Monday’s flag-raising rites at City Hall led by Congressman Mark Go, employees and guests.
He said the approved ordinances included a measure limiting the speed of cars and motorcycles in the city aimed at protecting the life and limb of motorists and general public; and an ordinance creating guidelines for the implementation of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations – a Department of Social Welfare and Development program that gives financial, medical and psychological assistance to indigent families, abused or abandoned children, victims of human trafficking and others in need.
Another ordinance passed by the August body during the five-month period included the proclamation of October 17 to 23 as “National Week for Overcoming Extreme Poverty”, since one of the government’s main goals is to eliminate poverty, Yangot said.
He also said the approved resolutions included a measure requesting the city schools division to include in the school curriculum retreats, recollections, and other activities that mold the character of students, enhance their spiritual development and teach values formation; and a resolution ordering barangay officials to put-up a multi-purpose community playground in their respective barangays and create programs that encourage young people to engage in traditional Philippine games.
Another approved resolution is requesting the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to set-up a complaint desk at City Hall that would aim at providing a venue for government workers to air grievances or problems adversely affecting their performance at work.
Yangot said there are 42 proposed ordinances and 21 proposed resolutions that may still be approved by the local legislature in the succeeding months.
He is confident that officials and staff of the legislative branch will continue to work hard in finding solutions to the various problems being faced by the city and its residents.
