Control committee sa rabies at galang aso nilikha

LUNGSOD NG BAGUIO – Isang Rabies Prevention and Stray Dog Control Committee ang nilikha sa lungsod upang pangunahan ang mga aktibidad tungo sa pagkakaroon ng isang rabies-free city.
Pamumunuan ni Mayor Benjamin Magalong ang committee kasama si City Veterinarian Dr. Brigit Piok bilang action officer. Sa isang Executive Order No. 163 series of 2019 ay pinangalanan ng mayor ang sumusunod bilang mga miyembro: City Health Officer Dr. Rowena Galpo, Dept. of Education Baguio City Schools Division Supt. Dr. Marie Carolyn Verano, Dept. of Interior and Local Government City Director Evelyn Trinidad, Association of Barangay Councils President Coun. Michael Lawana, Baguio City Police Director Lt. Col. Allen Rae Co, ang public information officer at ang non-government organizations Philippine Veterinary Medical Association Cordillera (PVMA-CAR) at Cordillera Animal Protection Advocate Inc. (CAPA).
Ang komite ay naatasan na i-coordinate ang mga plano at mga hakbang mula sa mga miyembrong ahensiya upang makamit ang isang rabies-free Baguio City sa taong 2030. Naatasan din ito na maghanda ng isang City Rabies Prevention and Stray Dog Control Plan na sumusunod sa National Rabies Prevention and Control Program at isasama ang mas maraming tiyak na responsibikidad na sakop ng Local Government Unit; at magpaukala ng mga amiyenda sa umiiral na City Rabies Ordinances kung kinakailangan.
Sa mga barangay, tutulong ang komite sa paglikha ng Barangay Rabies Prevention and Stray Dog Control na”Bantay Rabies”, suriin at suportahan ang mga aktibidad ng barangay sa implementasyon ng kanilang mga responsibilidad sa programa, magkaroon ng model barangays bilang best implementers at gumawa ng panuntunan at magsagawa ng search for the implementing barangay.
Ang paglikha ng komite ay alinsunod sa Republic Act No. 9842 o ang Anti-Rabies Act of 2001 na may mandatong magtatag ng isang Nationa Rabies Preventon and Control Program.
“The law mandates the establishment of rabies prevention and stray dog control committee in all LGUs (for) harmonious implementation of the program (while also providing) guidelines for the declaration of rabies-free zones and one of the requirements in the declaration is the establishment of (a committee),” ani mayor.
Ang Ordinance No. 9-2008 o Amending Ordinance No. 61-1993 at Ordinance No. 82-1948 ng lungsod ay hinihingi na ang mga aso ay sasailalim sa anti-rabies vaccination.
