Cordillera receives P1.498-B budget for 2019 irrigation projects

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Over 11,899 farmers in Cordillera will benefit from the P1,498,725 billion budget for 2019 irrigation projects, the National Irrigation Administration-Cordillera (NIA-CAR) said on Friday.
According to NIA-CAR Regional Manager Benito Espique, projects that were procured and bid out are now in full swing of operations. Rice producing provinces –Ifugao and Apayao got the biggest allocation with P534million and P318million, respectively, followed by Kalinga with P279million.
Ifugao received the biggest share mainly on the Afonso Lista Pump Irrigation Project (ALPIP), one of the major projects of the agency. Benguet, a highland vegetable producing province is allocated win P146million, Abra with P143million and Mountain Province with P124million.
The 304 total projects (2019) which will generate almost 9,000 jobs are expected to service a total of 1,913 hectares of new areas, restore 682 hectares, and rehabilitate 5,282 hectares in both national irrigation systems and communal irrigation systems in the region.
The 2019 projects also include Climate Change Adaptation, Small Irrigation works and Balikatan Sagip Patubig Program.
