Dams na may seismic monitors ilalagay sa Benguet

LUNGSOD NG BAGUIO – Nilagyan ang mga dam na pag-aari ng Aboitiz at hydropower generation facility sa Benguet ng mga kasangkapang may kapabilidad na imonitor ang mga paggalaw ng lupa na maaaring makaapekto sa structural integrity ng mga pasilidad.
Sinabi ni Mike Hosillos, manager for corporate communication ng SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) sa isang panayam, na mayroong limang accelerographs ang inilagay sa strategic locations sa 105 megawatts (MW) Ambuklao facility at sa 140-MW Binga Hydro Electric Power Plant.
Ang mga kasangkapang ito ay magtatala ng ground acceleration, isa sa mga pamamaraan sa pagsasagawa ng seismic analysis ng mga istruktura ng dam. Ang ‘strong motion recorders’ ay konektado sa control centers upang maisagawa ang rapid assessment lalo na mga oras na kailangan ang emergency response.
Sinabi ni SNAP president at Chief Executive Officer Joseph Yu na namuhunan ang kompanya ng nasa P8 milyon para sa teknolohiyang ito.
“The main purpose of these equipment is to monitor the structural integrity of the dams that supply our hydro plants as well as to safeguard the welfare of our employees and host communities,” pahayag ni Yu.
Ang paglalagay ng mga teknolohiya ay bahagi ng sustainability and risk mitigation plans ng SNAP upang makatulong na siguruhin ang energy reliability at security ng Luzon grid, dagdag ni Yu.
“This undertaking could potentially save lives and assets, as well as ensure the reliability of our services to our customers,” ani Yu, at dagdag pa niya “strong motion recorders in our dams could help us reduce cost and risk, and avoid having calamities turn into disasters by initiating early damage-detection.”
