Incoming La Union lawmaker offers reconciliation, unity to foe

Tubao, La Union(May 20, 2022)—- Incoming La Union second district lawmaker Dante Garcia is offering a reconciliation with Rep. Sandra Eriguel, whom he upset in the May 9 polls.
‘Let us end the bickering that was during the campaign and come together for the progress and development of our province,’ Garcia urged Eriguel, who had not accepted her loss in the polls.
The second district congressional post contest was perhaps the most contested post in the  province during the May polls.  Eriguel won over a wide-margin over Garcia and former Rep. Thomas Dumpit Jr. in the May 2019 elections but this time around,  the two-cornered fight between Eriguel and Garcia overturned seeing the latter’s victory of over 21,000 votes.
“Let us forget the pains of the campaign and work together, for the welfare of our people,” Garcia urged Eriguel, whom she had been alluding to as behind his husband’s slay in 2018.
“Our province needs our unity as political leaders,” the incoming lawmaker profusely urged.
“The people of the Second District of La Union have spoken and their voice is the voice of God”,  Garcia told hundreds of supporters, clergy, laity, volunteers and political leaders attending Thursday morning’s thanksgiving and ecumenical rites at his family’s compound here.
“With our overwhelming voice as shown in the May 9 election results,  our aspiration for change in the Second District of La Union is fueled more to achieve what is right and just for our people,” he said.  “Because by doing so, we glorify God as He wished His people should be.”
“Ti napasamak a panagpipili ket balligi tayo amin iti Segundo Distrito.  Inpakita tayo ti sangsangkamaysa a ganwat tapnu gun-uden daytoy gapu ti nasayaat nga arapaap tayo iti kaguimongan,” Garcia said in native Iluko.
He vowed, “I am committed to bring the government as closest as possible to the people, and more… to bring the government to your doorstep.”  We have to end the long years of neglect and lack of compassion for our people in need, he stressed.  “As we promised, you will see the difference in our first one hundred days,”Garcia, whose inauguration scheduled on June 28 at the Tubao town plaza, emphasized.

Garcia perhaps made history in La Union as the only political leader who won the second district congressional race who is not from Agoo town.
