LA UNION SURFING BREAK HEATS UP LONG WEEKEND IN SAN JUAN

La Union Surfing Break is definitely back with #TheBigWave as tourists and locals head on to San Juan and Bacnotan, La Union this recent long weekend to enjoy and experience the fun and excitement of Surf, Music, Arts and Gastronomy, and everything in between. Governor Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David together with the Municipality of San Juan headed by Mayor Arturo P. Valdriz led the kickoff program of San Juan leg activities on October 28, 2022 at the People’s Park, San Juan, La Union. Department of
Tourism (DOT) Region 1 Director Joseph Francisco R. Ortega alongside DOT Central officials, OIC-Undersecretary Verna Covar-Buensuceso, Assistant Secretary Maria Rica Bueno, Director Virgilio Maguigad and OIC-Director Arlene Alipio, among others also graced the occasion.

Giving each LGU and tourism organizations an avenue to showcase their products and services, the Provincial Government of La Union(PGLU) also staged the Surf town Market and I’M IN LUv Travel Fair as part of the Ilocos Norte – La Union Tourism Promotions Partnership. In the evening, local and guests performers entertained the crowd with their songs and made everyone dance the night away at the Music Festival. As a province worth living in, PGLU is committed in acquiring tourism data through the LU WAVES that was conducted during the 3-day festivity.

As way of giving back to the environment, Eco-Patrol Activities were also conducted to help keep the beach clean. Many tourists participated in and enjoyed the activity especially that they received La Union Surfing Break Merchandise for their help in keeping the beach clean. The awarding of Surfing Competition winners were also a highlight during the last day of the San Juan Leg.

Meanwhile, the activities at Bacnotan Leg commenced on October 27-29, 2022. Vice- Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega, Bacnotan Mayor Divina Fontanilla and Executive Assistant Justo H. Orros III alongside municipal officials and guests were present during the Opening Ceremonies at Quirino-Galongen Beach,
Bacnotan, La Union. The activities enjoyed by the guests and participants were Beach Volleyball, Coastal Cleanup, Zumbaybay, Kayak Race, Battle of the Bands, Sand Castle Making Contest, Surfboard Painting
Competition, Awarding And Closing Ceremonies, and the longed-for Music Festival!

Despite the strong winds and rainfall of Typhoon Paeng, La Union Surfing Break made the much-anticipated break of the season a big hit. The spirit of #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan continues as PGLU together with its partners heightened the security measures and protocols during the said event to ensure the safety and welfare of our Kaprobinsiaans and visitors.

Truly, this much talked about tourism event made big waves of impact this year. Thus, this marked another
milestone for La Union as the province gears towards becoming the Heart of Agri- Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
