NIA-CAR’s pump irrigation project to benefit LT farmers

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Dozens of strawberry growers and vegetable farmers at the Strawberry Fields in Barangay Betag in Km. 6, La Trinidad will soon benefit from the pump irrigation project of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA)- Cordillera.

NIA-Benguet Satellite Office provincial head engineer Godofredo Velaque who supervised the project worth P2.073 million, said the project is “substantially completed”.

On Thursday (March 28), Velaque led other NIA officials to the pump testing of the irrigation facility. “We are working double time to ensure the reliability, safety and cleanliness of the water,” Velaque said.

The NIA official also said he is optimistic that the pump irrigation facility will be fully operational this summer to help farmers cope up with the dry spell.

The pump irrigation facility, funded from the 2018 Establishment of Ground Water Pump Irrigation Project (EGWPIP) will service 7 hectares of farmlands, part of the Strawberry Fields which is managed by the Benguet State University.
