Rider killed after smashing head on with trailer truck in Ilocos Sur

BAGUIO CITY – A rider immediately died after smashing into an 18-wheeler truck at around 9:00 PM Monday along the National Highway in Barangay Saoat, Sta Cruz, Ilocos Sur.

The victim was identified as Jan Kim Pacquia Pacuno, 23, farmer, and a resident of Barangay Baluarte, Salcedo, Ilocos Sur. The truck driver is Ellizer Villanueva Tolentino, 46 and a resident of 98 Aglipay Street,  Vintar, Ilocos Norte.

According to the Sta. Cruz police, the trailer truck was heading South. The truck driver tried to overtake a tricycle when suddenly the motorcycle driven by the victim appeared and collided head-to-head with the big vehicle.

Because of the impact, the victim’s body was severed and beyond recognition.

It was known that the motorcycle had no headlights and the victim was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

The truck driver is under custody of the Sta. Cruz Police.

Meanwhile, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Region 1 is reminding the fisherfolks of Ilocos Region not to go the sea and fish.

The bureau warned them that the seawaters remain dangerous as strong waves and winds still prevail.
