BAGUIO CITY

The CoVid 19 pandemic may have been the reason for the rise in vape usage, a city health officer said. Dr. Nelson
Hora of the Baguio City Health Office said that the more than three years of no face to face classes helped the rise in vape usage. He said, during the Smoke Free Research Dissemination Forum Tuesday, the absence of a teacher caused the increase of vape usage among students. He said that students should be reminded every now and then by their teachers of the dangers of using vape.

Hora said that their should be more information and education campaign must be done to stop students from
using vape. Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda said that when she was a member of the City Anti-Drug Advisory Council that students are usually subjected to inspection prior they enter the schools where the bags are opened and they were able to confiscate drugs and other dangerous substances including cigarette.

“We will look into that if we could implement same this time,” said the veteran legislator. She added that local and national legislations are in conflict like the city bans smoking and vaping while the national law allows.
