SENIOR CITIZENS JOINS FILIPINO ELDERLY WEEK ACTIVITIES

Various activities in different venues await senior citizens for October, in celebration of Filipino Elderly Week/Month. They had the Scout Official For A Day (SCOFAD) last October 9, replacing city executives Congressman Marquez Go and Mayor Benjamin Magalong; legislators; Vice Mayor
Faustino Olowan and the councilors; and city hall department heads. The SCs performed office
responsibilities where they were assigned while the SC city councilors filed their proposed resolutions and ordinances in a council session.

SC officials takeover in the barangays (BSCOFAD) shall also be scheduled, with Punong Barangays and Kagawads unseated for a day; their responsibilities relinquished to the elderly. A senior citizen wellness camp was launched, for a series of three activities: the digital literacy training at the DICTCAR training center on October 11-12; Swimming instructions/ lessons at the Baguio Swimming Pool Complex at a date to be announced; and Yoga classes at the Multi-Purpose Hall on
October 24.

A novel activity shall also be undertaken, on Oct. 19 at Session road, where the elderly shall be in their cosplay costumes, with an interbarangay chalk art contest. The whole family is expected to
participate with the SC costume choice and presentation, and as cheerers and audience. On October 29, gifts shall be given to identified senior citizens at the Aurora Hill Senior Citiaen Center.

A health fair for senior citizens was also done last Oct. 5, free services for dental, eye and ear check-up; geriatric screening, nutrition and counselling were offered, as with haircut and massage. Flu
vaccination was also administered to the elderly. Last Oct. 4, an “Usapang Salun-at sa Kumonidad,” a Webinar on Geriatric Health, Senior Citizen Law, Osteoporosis and Fall Prevention was offered by the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC). And earlier on October 2, from 8:30 to 10:00 AM, a dance fitness Zumba was done at the BGHMC garden. Other activities may also
be scheduled. –
