Stranded tech-voc students receive financial aid, relief goods

BAGUIO CITY — some 10 stranded trainees received financial aid, and relief goods from Baguio City School of Arts and Trades (BCSAT) and the Office of City
Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda, according to BCSAT School Administrator Arlene Cadalig.
Ms. Cadalig explained that the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) resulted in a lockdown that prevented some trainees from returning to their respective provinces. As a result, there are trainees who are stranded in Baguio City.
”Mindful of the need to support our stranded trainees, we tracked their whereabouts with the help of the Student Body Organization of the school through the social media account,” she said.
The first batch of stranded students, numbering 10, received relief goods and cash assistance from the BCSAT.
These were given to them in their current residences within and outside the city. Three (3) of the stranded students are from CAR while the rest are from Regions 1, 2, and 3. Ms. Cadalig added that the situation of stranded students came to the knowledge of the Regional Technical Education and Skills Development Committee (RTESDC) Chairperson, City Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda.
“Her office facilitated the provision of additional food packs to the students for the duration of the ECQ.”
Of the total number of stranded students, six (6) are enrolled in the diploma courses while the others are enrolled in the certificate programs. She assured that the school is currently doing its best to generate funds to be utilized in buying basic needs for other stranded students they will find.
