Bauang LGU holds DOT seminar

BAUANG, La Union – The Bauang Local Government Unit (LGU) hosted a 2–day seminar for the Provincial Tourism Office in coordination with the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region I on May 29-30, 2019 at the Bauang Farmers’ Hall here.
The seminar, entitled Tourism Awareness and Capability Building for the Province of La Union, aimed to educate and train host communities of major attraction sites in the province and take
advantage of tourism as an engine of local economic and community development while ensuring environmental sustainability.
It consisted of lectures and practical activities designed to educate and train host communities of major tourist attraction sites in La Union.
The seminar also promotes tourism awareness among tourism officers aside from the barangay level and other tourism stake holders.
Bauang and Naguilian delegates of Central Eastern Circuit attended the seminar. Representatives from Fruit Basket Farm and the churches of St. Peter and St. Paul; Barangay Captains of grape
farms – Urayong, Bagbag, Santiago and Payocpoc Sur; Barangay Captain of Palugsi Limmansangan where Mt. Kabugbugan is located; and Barangay Captains of Parian Oeste and Pudoc where Bauang Bakawan Eco-Tourism Park is found; as well as staff members of Bauang Tourism Office attended the seminar.
Naguilian representatives including those from Sangbay Falls; basi production; silver craft; transport industry; citrus farms; RN Farm and their tourism officer also attended the seminar.
Speakers in the seminar included DOT’s Bon Pugal for the topics Sustainable Tourism Quality of Effective and Excellent Service; Basic Tour Guiding; and Training Needs Analysis.
Yani Yabat discussed tourism trends; tourism administration and organization; tourism products and services; tourism promotions and marketing; and the value of tourism.
PGLU Provincial Information and Tourism officer Adamor L. Dagang tracked the tourism destinations and attractions in La Union.
Participants did role playing on efficient customer service and were given a quiz to test the knowledge they acquired.
Bauang is the second batch to undergo said training. The first batch was with the City of San Fernando and San Juan.
