10 Illegal Miners Caught Along Shoreline In Claveria, Cagayan

BAGUIO CITY (May 17, 2021)—Ten alleged illegal miners including a minor were caught along the shoreline in Barangay D’Leano, Claveria, Cagayan early dawn Monday. 
Barangay officials tipped off the illegal mining operation,  prompting operatives of the Western Cagayan Maritime Police Station (MARPSTA) – Maritime Group, Explosive Ordinance Disposal and Canine (EOD K9) Unit and Claveria town police to conduct surveillance,  said Cagayan police director BGen. Crizaldo Nieves.
Edgene Caligan, Reylie Acob, Noel Inocencio, Joel Caligan Jr., Rhayan Avanzado, Oscar Avanzado, Noel Avanzado and Clarence Magayano Sr who are residents of Claveria, Cagayan were caught together with Keith Reeve Julaquit and a minor only called “Dodong” from Conner, Apayao.
Authorities seized a water pump set, two steel mallets, one hand held radio, two ordinary blasting caps, an ordinary five feet time fuse, more or less fifty grams of Ammonium fuel oil (ANFO), a liter of gasoline and four steel chisels.
Nieves said the illegal miners will be facing Inquest Proceedings before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor for Violation of Republic Act 7076 otherwise known as People’s Small-scale Mining Act of 1991, while the minor was endorsed to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer of Claveria.
