DECADES-OLD BOUNDARY DISPUTES IN LA TRINIDAD HAMPER PROGRESS

Affected residents urge action

LA TRINIDAD, BenguetResidents of barangays– Wangal, Puguis and Bineng appealed to municipal officials to assist them in settling their boundary disputes which been going on for more than 20 years. In an interview, Councilor
Jonie Puroc, president of Liga ng mga Barangay (La Trinidad) said, one of his top concern is to lobby and seek the assistance of the municipal council and mayor’s office to solve the issue. Councilor Puroc said that countless times he was been approached by residents and officials of said barangay to help them settle the issue.

He added that through his meetings with the affected residents, the latter are clamoring for the conduct of survey and come with the proper technical descriptions to determine boundaries. Puroc recalled that a municipal guidelines were introduced in settling barangay boundary disputes, but never implemented, the alderman lamented. It was learned that boundary disputes also found in the areas of Benguet General Hospital (BGH), Benguet State University (BSU) and the Main Headquarters of La Trinidad Police Station.

Municipal Engineer Benedict Pineda for his part said, he needs an order from the mayor before his office will act on the issue. Engr. Pineda advised affected communities to settle among themselves ,pointing ‘historical’ as basis in
determining boundaries. A barangay resolution is also needed for proper action.
